The credit transfer
system in India allows students to continue their education at a new university without losing the credits they’ve already earned. It provides flexibility and mobility within higher education, enabling learners to switch institutions, courses, or modes of study with ease.
Under the UGC Credit Transfer Policy and the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), students can store and transfer credits earned through regular, online, or distance learning platforms such as SWAYAM and NPTEL. The new university evaluates the previous coursework and accepts equivalent credits, allowing students to complete their degree without repeating subjects.
This system is beneficial for B.Tech, MBA, and PhD programs, supporting the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It promotes academic flexibility, lifelong learning, and student-centric education across India’s higher education system.
