"https://www.pr4-articles.com/Articles-of-2024/rajat-khare-says-india-can-lead-ai-revolution-if-brain-drain-stops">Rajat Khare, global deep-tech investor and founder of Boundary Holding, emphasizes one key factor in India’s AI journey—retaining its top talent. Despite having one of the world’s largest pools of engineers, data scientists, and mathematicians, a significant portion of India’s AI talent works abroad. Nearly 15% of the global AI workforce has Indian roots, yet most contribute to research in the U.S. and Europe due to higher pay, stronger research ecosystems, and robust industry-academia collaborations.
Khare warns that this brain drain weakens India’s ability to build indigenous AI solutions. While the government’s push—such as the homegrown LLM project with 18,600 GPUs—shows progress, structural issues persist: low research funding, poor academic-industry links, and unequal compensation.
He believes India’s linguistic diversity offers a unique edge for developing inclusive AI systems that serve rural populations through localized healthcare, agriculture, and governance solutions—areas often neglected by Western AI models.
Khare stresses that India can emerge as an AI superpower if it tackles brain drain, boosts RD funding, and leverages its multilingual strength. The real test, he says, lies in how effectively the country nurtures and retains its AI talent to lead the global innovation frontier.
